Lyon Player Ratings

Anthony Lopes - 8/10

The Portuguese goalkeeper was in fantastic form as he claimed just about every cross and corner with supreme confidence. Also made a few very decent saves. Manchester City didn't make him work hard enough, but Lopes will know it is unlikely that Bayern will let him off the hook.

Leo Dubois - 6/10

Had a few nervy moments at the back and his positioning wasn't all that perfect. Yet, the 25-year-old French wingback worked very hard and played an important role in their victory.

Jason Denayer - 7/10

Denayer flew into tackles with authority

The former Manchester City man came back to hunt his ex-employers with a solid performance at the back. Playing on the right side of the back 3, Denayer kept Sterling in check despite the Englishman's best efforts. His towering figure was too much for City to deal with physically.

Marcelo - 7/10

Situated in the middle of the back 3, the 33-year-old veteran used all of his experience to marshal the defense expertly. He'll need to do a lot more of that if Lyon are to pull off yet another shock in the semi-finals.

Fernando Marcal - 8/10

Completing the back 3 is Lyon's best defender tonight, Marcal. The Brazilian was rock solid at the left side of the back 3, and dealt with Jesus, de Bruyne and Walker extremely well throughout the evening. It could very well have been the best performance the 31-year-old has put in so far, and it came at a clutch time.

Bruno Guimaraes - 6/10

The 22-year-old Brazilian is a seriously talented defensive midfielder and he looked unfazed coming up against some of Europe's biggest names. He didn't see much of the ball, but worked hard and went into tackles fearlessly.

Houssem Aouar - 8/10

Manchester City's midfield couldn't contain Aouar

Many considered this a potential audition for Houssem Aouar, who has been linked with a move to City this summer. If so is the case, he must have passed it with flying colours. The 22-year-old Frenchman is a ridiculous talent who can do a little bit of everything, and he showed that tonight.

Maxence Caqueret - 7/10

What a massive night in the young career of 20-year-old Caqueret! He is one of many talented young players Lyon have in their ranks, and he did his reputation no harm this evening. It was his defensive contribution which caught the eye in particular.

Maxwel Cornet - 8/10

Manchester City just cannot contain this man. Cornet has now scored 4 goals in 3 matches against the Citizens, but none more important than tonight's opener. He curled the ball beautifully to give Lyon a priceless lead, and then worked extremely hard to help his team defensively. His pace was too much to deal with at times.

Memphis Depay - 6/10

Often Lyon's best player, Memphis Depay was perhaps their most ordinary performer tonight. He failed to create any meaningful chances, and was far from effective overall in the final third. The fact that Lyon managed to win even without his usual productivity makes this victory that much more impressive.

Karl Toko-Ekambi - 7/10

The former Villarreal man might not have scored tonight, but most of the Lyon attack flowed through him. He led the line excellently and his work-rate was fantastic.

Substitutes

Thiago Mendes - 6/10

Came on for Guimaraes after City grabbed their equaliser. Slotted in nicely in midfield and played a comfortable game.

Kenny Tete - 5/10

A like-for-like replacement for Leo Dubois, Tete came on and put in a decent shift just like the man he replaced. His fresh legs brought a newfound energy on the right hand side.

Moussa Dembele - 8/10

The star option off the bench, Moussa Dembele proved to be the hero of the night as he finished a one-on-one against Ederson to give Lyon the lead. He virtually ended the game after tapping the ball home, displaying his opportunist character to cash-in on the Ederson mistake, scoring his second in the process.

Jeff Reine-Adelaide - N/A

Came on just to see the game out.
