Reports: Manchester City propose shock  Aguero swap deal for La Liga superstar

Leicester City v Manchester City - Premier League
Will Sergio Aguero be moved on by Pep Guardiola?

What's the rumour?

As per reports in the Sun (do keep a little salt handy) Manchester City have sounded out their record goalscorer and bonafide legend Sergio Aguero over a rather shocking swap deal with Atletico Madrid.

This return to La Liga and Los Colcherenos which would see Antoine Griezmann go the other way. Considering Griezmann has a £85 million release clause and the fact that City value Aguero at £60 million (as per the report itself), there would also be some cash involved in the deal.

In case you didn't know

It is understood by the Sun that Diego Simeone wants to bring him back to play up front alongside the man who is the personification of the Atleti philosophy, Diego Costa and while Pep Guardiola doesn't want to see his main striker go, he may be open to the deal if it could see Antoine Griezmann come the other way.

The heart of the matter

While it's plain just how good Sergio Aguero can be in the Atletico system, Griezmann too certainly fits the mould of a Pep Guardiola forward with his keen positional sense and constant movement in between the lines.

Rumour Reliability/ Probability

3/10

First off, it's the Sun.

Secondly, Griezmann has been sounded out by both Barcelona and Manchester United - if reports are to be believed; and those rumours have been in the pipeline for far longer and until further reports emanate from trustworthy sources, we may be advised to take this one with a rather large pinch of that salt we'd asked you to keep handy in the first line.

Both players would fit the other team rather well, wouldn't they?

Author's Take

In the unlikely event that such a move might happen, both City and Atletico would actually benefit from it - Aguero would absolutely love playing off Costa while Diego Simeone can revert comfortably to his favoured 4-4-2 formation while Griezmann is the kind of all-action, deeper-lying forward that Pep Guardiola seems to like having leading his line.
