Manchester City and PSG found guilty of breaching UEFA's FFP rules

UEFA president Michel Platini speaks during the UEFA President’s Award

Manchester City and Paris Saint German have been found guilty of non-compliance with the UEFA’s financial fair play (FFP) rules.

UEFA’s club financial control board have issued settlement offers to both the clubs along with 20 others who have breached the rules and are supposed to meet on Thursday.

The club representatives will have to choose between one of two options – either bear with the given punishment or negotiate for a lesser disciplinary action which could probably include a fine or European restrictions imposed on their squad for the next season.

The adjudicatory panel will receive the outstanding cases and give its final decision if there is no agreement with the club.

However, UEFA President Michel Platini has assured that no club will face the extreme penalization of being excluded from the European competition for the next campaign.

BBC Radio 5 live sports news correspondent Richard Conway said,”What I think is going to happen are measures over Champions League squads next season.”

“Perhaps a salary cap or limiting the number of eligible players in the squads, perhaps even making a new signings ineligible for the Champions League squad next year,” he added.

The FFP rules, however, do not apply to the clubs who aren’t involved in Europe this season. They will be put into context from next season.
