Jose Mourinho has reportedly confirmed that he will return to action next season. The highly-rated Portuguese manager has been out of work since December 2015 after he was fired by Roman Abramovich, even though Mourinho guided Chelsea to their fifth Premier League title the previous season.

However, the London club had a disastrous start to their 2015-16 season which led to the sack of Mourinho. The Blues currently occupy the 10th position in the Premier League table.

The 53-year-old has been linked heavily with the Red Devils since the inception of this year and should the Glazers and the club’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward decide to part ways with Louis van Gaal at the end of this season, Mourinho seems to be the obvious choice.

Van Gaal under pressure

The ex-Netherlands manager is under a ton of pressure at Old Trafford and surely yesterday’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of their arch rivals at Anfield wouldn’t help the cause. The Red Devils are currently struggling at sixth position in the Premier League and their chances to qualify for the next season’s UEFA Champions League looks very dim.

In an interview that he had given in Singapore last month, the Mourinho had hinted that he would rather resume his career in the summer than take over midway through this season. Also, in an interview given to the BT Sports journalist Matt Smith yesterday, the Portuguese has confirmed that he will join his new club in July 2016.

The interview is due to be telecasted this week.

Jose Mourinho, who started his coaching career with FC Benfica in 2000, has a stellar record as a manager. He has managed clubs like Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid and has won eight domestic league titles.

The Portuguese manager has also won the Champions League twice and the UEFA Cup once with FC Porto and Inter Milan. He also has the record of not going a single calendar year from 2003 to 2012 without winning, at least, one trophy. Here are a few tweets from BT Sports journalist Matt Smith on what Jose Mourinho had to say to him, off camera.
