Manchester United transfer rumour: Red Devils could swoop in for three Atletico Madrid stars in the summer

Antoine Griezmann Yannick Carrasco
Mourinho faces stiff competition from his league rivals Chelsea and Manchester City for Griezmann’s signature

Jose Mourinho reportedly is planning a massive clear-out at Manchester United and is expected to bolster his squad with new talents after his signings have seemingly faltered this season. Recent reports claim that Mourinho is planning a triple raid for Atletico Madrid stars Antoine Griezmann, defender Jose Gimenez and Yannick Carrasco.

Mourinho knows all too well that Manchester United need top players and reinforcements if they are to get back to their heights of old. After a sluggish start and his signings failing to make much impact in the Premier League, he is reportedly looking to La Liga where he managed Real Madrid, while keeping tabs on their city rival’s Atletico Madrid’s emerging and established starlets.

Manchester United need some quality if they are to become serious title challengers and Mourinho believes that these players will adapt and make an impact in the Premier League.

However, Mourinho faces stiff competition from his league rivals Chelsea and Manchester City for Antoine Griezmann’s signature. The player is widely touted as a favourite for 2016’s FIFA player of the year award but Griezmann has reportedly said that he fancies Manchester United as his next destination.

Griezmann is experiencing a slight dip in form considering his high standards and goal scoring record but Diego Simeone is confident that he will return to goal scoring ways in La Liga soon.

United have already made an enquiry for Uruguayan defender Jose Gimenez’s signature to bolster their defence with a number of poor performances from their back line this season, most hauntingly the 4-0 thrashing at Stamford Bridge by Antonio Conte’s men.

Now reports claim that Mourinho is looking to offload struggling winger Memphis Depay in favour of Yannick Carrasco. The attacking midfielder has lit up Europe with a string of excellent performances for Atletico this season and that has caught Mourinho’s eye.

Mourinho has given the green light to loan out winger Memphis Depay in January with Everton and Juventus keen to sign the Dutch winger. Depay has failed to make a big impact at United and is most likely to leave.

Mourinho knows that this season is more of a strengthening period for Manchester United with the club already failing to win key games and finding themselves chasing the pack. 4th place and a European qualification look like the most realistic target for United at the moment, unless the top three of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City drop considerable points.

United currently find themselves 8 points behind leaders Liverpool in 6th place but are still in with a shout. At the moment though, Mourinho is looking at Atletico with a keen eye and could swoop for the three players after things are evaluated at the halfway stage of the season.
