Marco Van Who? – A little bit about new Chelsea signing Van Ginkel
Chelsea are now in the process of finalising their second transfer of the season, Marco Van Ginkel from Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem.
The fee has not yet been disclosed but the 20-year old is believed to have a value of around £8m, so, he represents a smaller gamble than many of our recent purchases.
Apart from the quirky surname there is not that much I knew about Van Ginkel prior to this announcement.
Apparently he is a Dutch international footballer who has come through the ranks at Vitesse with many commentators attributing him as one of the star performers in a Vitesse side that finished 4th in the league last season.
His personal contribution was 8 goals in 36 appearances with four assists figures that suggests there will be an attacking edge to his game.
He is young and highly rated in Holland after being named last season’s Dutch Football Talent of the Year and considering some of the names to have won this award, including former Chelsea player Arjen Robben, he could be a real talent.
It will be interesting to see how he develops giving the competition in our midfield but like all our youngsters I look forward to seeing his fate at Chelsea.
