PSG has confirmed the signing of Maxwell from Barcelona at a fee of around €3.5 million, as the player has agreed on a three and a half year deal. Maxwell, 30, has been on the fringes of the Barcelona squad with Eric Abidal filling in the left back position for the Catalan giants these seasons.
“From my first conversation with (director of football) Leonardo, I felt really wanted,” Maxwell said. “The invitation to join Paris made me very happy. This suits from the path that I have taken before (playing for Ajax, Inter Milan, and Barcelona). The project and the prospects motivated me.”
Leonardo added, “I have always admired Maxwell. I have followed him throughout his career. I’m really happy to have signed him.”
Maxwell will be the first signing of PSG in the transfer window, as he will most likely fill in for Siaka Tiene who will represent Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations this month.
Here are some highlights of his career at Barca:
Though Max didn’t make much appearances this season, mainly due to injury, he scored 2 (the whole of his Barca goals) against L’Hospitalet in the CDR 1/16th final.
With him going to PSG, and King Abi’s contract talks on hold, sources say that Guardiola’s agents have had lunch with Jordi Alba’s agent at a restaurant in Valencia. Giving hopes that the young cantenaro could return to Barca.
