Sunday witnessed two entertaining duels between clubs having varied ambitions this time . Newcastle united faced Aston villa , knowing that avoiding relegation would be their first priority . Aston villa on the other hand, desperately wants to break into the top 4 bossed by the big four . Hence football fans predicted a tough tussle between the two , with both not letting the other gain control. But what followed was a game of unending box to box attacks , some astonishing displays of football and a hugely flattering scoreline for the Magpies who never dreamt of achieving this after their deserved thrashing in the hands of Manchester united .

Aston villa started as the better team and John Carew missed a golden chance in the first 10 minutes when he missed a penalty much to the delight of the Geordie fans .

But after some early pressure , it was all Newcastle throughout the match .Joey Barton repayed some of the faith which Chris Hughton put on him when his 12th minute scorcher rocketed past Freidel . Newcastle captain , Kevin Nolan then struck the second with a cool header on the second attempt . Ashley Young meanwhile had the referees to blame when his superb run through the defenders was deemed offside when the replays clearly suggested nothing was wrong . But the main story of the match started after that when Newcastle united pin up boy ,Andy Carroll struck a well deserved hattrick to give the magpies a stunning 6-0 win . Aston villa might rue their bad luck but they had only themselves to blame after failing to match the intensity and the aggression of the Newcastle united wingers . Special praise should also go to the two Geordie wingers in Jonas Guiterrez and Routledge who were simply unstoppable . time for a reality check for the villains who were expcted to fight for the top 4 spot this season too .

In the day’s other match , Fulham scored a last minute equalizer to secure a much deserved draw at craven cottage . Manchester united went 1-0 up when a Paul Scholes piledriver narrowly whisked past the hands of the fulham keeper. Manchester united dominated for the majority of the first half . But the second half proved to be a totally different story . Fulham attacked from the word go and they got the reward when a rampaging duff found Zamora who clinically put the ball in front of an unmarked Davies . Davies then coolly shot past Edwin Van Der Sar . there were doubts regarding the offside position of Zamora , but with Johnny Evans clarly out of the field , it was deemed a clear goal .

With both sides tied at 1-1 , substitutions were made . Owen and Nani came on for the ineffective Park and Valencia . and Nani looked lively and the entire team started looking much more threatening .The deadlock was broken 11 minutes from time when a Nani corner struck Hngelaand who unknowingly sent the ball into the net.

Manchester united were presented an opportunity to sent the tie beyond doubt when duff handled the ball in the penalty area . But a poor penalty from Nani was brilliantly saved by Stockdale . It cam back finally to haunt the red devils when Hangeland made for his earlier error to powerfully slot the goal past the united custodian and level the score .

A big opportunity lost for Ferguson and they have to start playing catchup from the beginning of the season . but he should have no complaints in a match where Fulham surely deserved a point . This season is already proving to be one of the most exciting ones .

Football is my life . Sports is my passion . Developing India into a top sporting nation is my ultimate aim .
