Arsenal host Chelsea at the Emirates on Tuesday, April 23, in the Premier League. Mikel Arteta's team are leading the title race after 33 games and need a win to remain on top.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are unlikely to secure the services of Bernardo Silva this summer. Elsewhere, the north London side are interested in Santiago Gimenez.

On that note, let's take a look at the major Arsenal transfer news from April 23, 2024.

Arsenal are unlikely to secure the services of Bernardo Silva this summer, according to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Portuguese midfielder has been linked with a move to the Emirates by recent reports. The Gunners have done business with Manchester City before, bringing in Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus.

However, in his column for Caught Offside, Romano said that a move to Barcelona is more likely as City don't want to strengthen their rivals.

“Sorry to disappoint any Arsenal fans who had got their hopes up, but I have zero information on Arsenal and Bernardo so far, to be honest. The Portugal international’s release clause is there for £50m but obviously Man City don’t want Bernardo to stay in the Premier League and play for one of their rivals," wrote Romano.

He continued:

“My expectation for Bernardo, if he does leave City this summer, is to go abroad. As I reported recently, Barcelona’s interest has always been there, and we know from what Joao Felix said publicly that he’s spoken to Bernardo about the move.”

Silva has been linked with a move to Camp Nou for a while, but the club's poor finances could ruin their plans.

Gunners eyeing Santiago Gimenez, says journalist

Arsenal are among the clubs interested in Santiago Gimenez, according to journalist Alejandro Gomez. The Mexican striker has been in fine form for Feyenoord this season, registering 24 goals and seven assists from 40 games across competitions. The Gunners are looking for a new No. 9 and apparently have their eyes on the 23-year-old.

Speaking recently, as cited by Caught Offside, Gomez also named Juventus and Atletico Madrid as Gimenez's suitors.

“He feels that his cycle at Feyenoord is over, and he is ready to start activating contact with three very important institutions. The relationship with each of them is different; although there is not one more ahead than the other, there are different levels of interest,” said Gomez.

He continued:

“They are not speculations, and the Mexican will have to make a decision between Arsenal, Juventus, and Atlético de Madrid.”

Gimenez's contract with the Eredivisie side expires in 2027.

Arsenal have received a boost in their plans to sign Dusan Vlahovic this summer. According to journalist Dean Jones, the Serbian could leave Juventus this summer. Vlahovic's contract with the Bianconeri expires in 2026 and he hasn't agreed to a new deal yet. The Gunners are long-term admirers of the 24-year-old and have been linked with the player once again ahead of the summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones stated that Vlahovic could be available for £50-60m.

"Vlahovic is one of those players that can emerge as an amazing option. He has the ability to completely change the dimension of a team and, as a striker in the £50million or £60million bracket, I don’t think you can hope to find someone much better," said Jones.

He continued:

"He has a good goals return record, still has not peaked, is a proper No. 9, and I really do think he could yet emerge as an option for clubs in the Premier League in the summer."

He concluded:

"He has important conversations coming up at Juventus, but there is real uncertainty over whether they can offer him improved terms on the contract he already has, so the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea will be keeping an eye on it."

Chelsea are also in the market for a new striker and have had their eyes on the Serbian for a while.
