PSG's captain Marquinhos has signed a new long-term deal.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) captain Marquinhos is thrilled to have signed a new five-year deal with the club.

The Brazilian defender has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal, keeping him tied to the Parc des Princes until 2028. He has been a stalwart at the back for the Parisians ever since arriving in 2013.

Marquinhos, 29, has spent 10 years at PSG and he is very proud to have signed a new deal with the Ligue 1 giants. He told the club's official website:

"I am very happy. This is a very special moment for me, for my life, for my family life. I am very happy to announce this contract extension, but also very proud."

Marquinhos is looking forward to the future with the Parisians and he thinks Christophe Galtier's side can achieve great success:

"Paris Saint-Germain have always given me a lot of confidence, and I also have a lot of confidence in this club. I am happy here. I think we can achieve a lot of great things and I hope we will succeed in doing so."

Marquinhos has been key for PSG this season, helping the side keep 13 clean sheets in 42 games across competitions. He has also chipped in with three goal contributions and looks set to win his eighth Ligue 1 title.

Galtier's men are top of the league, holding a six-point cushion over second-placed Lens with three games remaining. They face Auxerre on Sunday (May 21) hoping to move to within a win of successfully retaining their league crown.

PSG exploring a fresh bid for Manchester City's Bernardo Silva

Bernardo Silva could be in the Parisians' sights this summer.

PSG are reportedly keen on reigniting their interest in Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva. According to The Telegraph, the Parisians are weighing up a move for the Portuguese playmaker after making prior inquiries in January.

Silva has enjoyed a superb season for Pep Guardiola's side, scoring seven goals and providing as many assists in 52 games across competitions. The Parc des Princes giants will likely be replacing Lionel Messi in the summer. The Argentine icon has decided to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.

However, PSG could be rivaled by Barcelona for Silva's signature with the Catalan giants long-term admirers of the midfielder. He has two years left on his contract with the Cityzens and is valued by Transfermarkt at €80 million.
