Ruud Gullit has slammed Mykhailo Mudryk for his free-kick at the end of Chelsea's loss to Manchester City. He believes that the fans have a right to be angry at the Ukrainian and cannot keep making excuses for the players.

Speaking to the media at the Laureus World Sports Academy, Gullit said that he couldn't believe the free-kick from Mudryk at the end of the FA Cup semifinal loss to Manchester City.

The winger's cross went over all players and resulted in a goalkick in added time. He said:

"How was it possible he could do it that badly? Of course it p*** off the Chelsea fans. And I think you have to name it as it is, to tell the truth. Because if you go around it and make excuses, that's no good.
"You have to say it's a lack of quality and and then they know it. They can be p*** off with it, but this is what people think. Then they can work on it. They can do something about it."

Chelsea are set to end trophyless for the second consecutive season for the first time since Roman Abramovich took over in 2003.

Ruud Gullit not blaming Mauricio Pochettino for Chelsea situation

Ruud Gullit has said that the Chelsea squad is clearly lacking in quality.

He's unwilling to blame manager Mauricio Pochettino but believes that the manager is also a part of the issue, as he has not gotten the formations right. He said:

"There's a lack of quality [in the squad]. Do I blame Pochettino? No. But he is responsible because he knew what he was getting into when he took the job.
"He needs another chance but he needs to get it right. He's already changed formations, at the beginning 3-4-3 and now 4-2-3-1, so he's looking for the solutions. But the worrying part is a lack of quality."

He added:

"When you come into something new [like Boehly] you need to come in with a different mentality. This is football in England, it's a total new ball game. It's not easy.
"They've got lots of players on five or six year contracts, so I really hope they start getting better. But when you have so many of them( then) you're asking a lot."

Chelsea take on Arsenal in the Premier League on Tuesday night. A win will see them go seventh, level on points with Manchester United and Newcastle United.
