Real Madrid travel to the Reale Arena on Saturday, September 14, to face Real Sociedad in La Liga. Carlo Ancelotti's team will be desperate for a win after already registering two draws in their first four games in the league.
Meanwhile, Los Blancos have suffered a setback in their plans to sign Jamal Musiala in 2025. Elsewhere, Dani Carvajal wants to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.
On that note, let's look at the major Real Madrid transfer stories from September 14, 2024.
Real Madrid suffer Jamal Musiala blow
Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has revealed that the club are already in talks to tie Jamal Musiala down to a new deal. The German midfielder will enter the final year of his contract with the Bavarians next summer and is already attracting attention from multiple clubs.
Real Madrid are also on the list of his suitors and are considering a move in 2025. Los Blancos are always on the lookout for top talents in the world and have set their sights on Musiala now.
However, speaking to the media as cited by Madrid Universal, Freund remained confident of keeping the 21-year-old at the Allianz Arena.
“There are always talks. We want to extend the contract. We want Jamal [Musiala] to stay with us long-term and help shape an era. Hopefully the talks will have a positive end! But there’s no time pressure,” said Freund.
Musiala has registered 44 goals and 31 assists from 166 games across competitions for the Bundesliga giants so far.
Dani Carvajal wants to stay
Dani Carvajal has expressed a desire to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Spanish full-back has been integral to Real Madrid's recent success and remains a key part of Carlo Ancelotti's starting XI.
Carvajal is also among the nominees for the Ballon d'Or 2024 following an exceptional 2023/24 campaign. However, the 32-year-old's contract expires at the end of this season and he hasn't been handed a new deal yet.
Speaking recently, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, Carvajal insisted that he won't play for another club in Europe if he leaves Los Blancos.
“If all parties agree, I want to renew and extend my career at Real Madrid. It’s always been my dream, and it’s still what I want. I wouldn’t want to play for any other European team after my time here at Real Madrid. It’s a matter of respect,” said Carvajal.
Recent reports have suggested that the La Liga champions have already identified Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold as a possible successor for Carvajal.
Andriy Lunin signs new deal with Los Blancos
Andriy Lunin has committed his future to Real Madrid, the club have announced. The Ukrainian goalkeeper was in superb form last season and helped Carlo Ancelotti deal with Thibaut Courtois' absence.
The Belgian's return from injury, however, relegated Lunin back to the bench in the final weeks of the campaign. The player's previous contract was set to expire in less than a year and there was speculation regarding his future over the summer.
Despite multiple rumours linking him to clubs across Europe and the Middle East, the 25-year-old ended up staying. He has now agreed to a six-year deal that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2030.
