Reports: Neymar instructs PSG to sign Chelsea superstar

Paris Saint-Germain v Celtic FC - UEFA Champions League
Neymar reportedly wants Alvaro Morata at PSG

What's the rumour?

Neymar has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in the last few weeks, but according to reports in Don Balon( via The Express), the Brazilian superstar has reportedly asked the PSG board to sign Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata in the summer transfer window.

According to the same report, Neymar's relationship with Edinson Cavani is not very good and he sees Morata as the perfect striker to form a fearsome trio along with Kylian Mbappe. In fact, Don Balon also adds that Cavani could be heading in the opposite direction as part of an incredible swap deal to get the former Real Madrid striker to Paris.

In case you didn't know...

Chelsea v Arsenal - Carabao Cup Semi-Final: First Leg
Alvaro Morata has struggled to find his best form at Chelsea this season

Just like Chelsea this season, Alvaro Morata has been extremely inconsistent. After starting the season pretty well, the Spaniard has struggled to find his best form. Morata looks short on confidence currently and has missed plenty of easy chances in the last few matches.

Edinson Cavani, on the other hand, has been in fine form for PSG this season. The 30-year-old striker has scored an astonishing 28 goals already and is easily one of the best 'number 9s' in world football at the moment.

However, there have been talks of a rift between Cavani and Neymar and it will be interesting to see what happens in the summer transfer window.

The heart of the matter

Alvaro Morata is undoubtedly an extremely talented striker, but his form for Chelsea this season has not inspired much confidence. Also, based on their general style of playing, Cavani seems more ideally suited to Chelsea's style of play and the swap deal might actually go through if PSG are interested in signing Morata.

However, Cavani has been absolutely impeccable for the Ligue 1 giants and it looks highly unlikely that they will let go of their star man to sign the struggling Chelsea striker.

Rumour rating/probability

3/10

The reports from Don Balon should always be taken with a pinch of salt and I personally will be very surprised if this deal does indeed go through in the summer transfer window.

Morata, when in form, is definitely one of the most elegant strikers in world football.

Author's take

Cavani is one of the best marksmen in football right now and if PSG are indeed looking for a swap deal for Alvaro Morata, the Blues should agree to the deal as Cavani still has at least 2 years left at the very top level and could fire them to major honours in the coming years.
