Patrick Bamford reveals Chelsea's 34 loan players have their own WhatsApp group

Patrick Bamford is currently out on loan with Crystal Palace

Chelsea loanee Patrick Bamford has revealed his parent club have a WhatsApp group for their army of loaned players, as per the reports on the Sun. Bamford has admitted he and 34 of the loaned players stay in touch on the popular messaging phone app and they are regularly monitored by the club’s psychologists.

The 22-year-old, who’ s currently on loan at Selhurst Park, is among the huge list of players spending a temporary spell away from Stamford Bridge – more than double of any other Premier League side. Bamford is looking to soak up as much first-team experience as possible after scoring seventeen goals on loan at Middlesbrough last year.

The former MK Dons striker has now revealed that the WhatsApp group tends to drain his phone battery whenever all the Blues’ 33 other players chat with each other simultaneously and he is hoping to shine for the Eagles soon, only to gloat in the group to his fellow loanees.

“We've actually got a Chelsea loan WhatsApp group,” Bamford said in an interview.

“The loan department set it up. Sometimes it drains your battery when everyone is messaging each other. If someone does something special at the weekend, one of the computer technology guys from the loan department will send it all out after the weekend.”

Bamford keen to discover his dark side

The English starlet has admitted he wants to prove himself in England’s top-flight and he is eager to develop his ‘dark side’.

“We have a psychologist at Chelsea who goes around seeing the loan players,” he added.

“And he said every top, top player has a dark side to them. So, someone like Diego Costa, sometimes he oversteps the mark. You can see he plays on the edge. He said I had to develop that. It’s not natural for me to be like that – some players might lash out but for me it’s probably more talking to opponents.”

“There are different ways [to do it]. You can get angry but it’s about controlling that aggression."

The number of Chelsea players, who are temporarily plying their trade away from Stamford Bridge, is nothing compared to Seria A’s Juventus, who have broken the record this season with a massive 58 players currently on loan.

The English champions have been roundly criticised for exploiting relaxed loan rules to bring in young promising talent without ever giving them opportunities in the club’s first team and Jose Mourinho is now under massive pressure to put his faith on the youngsters as some of his senior players like Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic, Branislav Ivanovic and Eden Hazard have let him down on many occasions this season.
