Premier League 2019-20: 3 reasons why the Arsenal board should sack Unai Emery during the international break

Unai Emery's position has never been more under threat than it is right now. The Spaniard has proven to be an underwhelming appointment, displaying a poorer win ratio than Arsène Wenger’s darkest days. In his first 50 games as Arsenal manager, Emery has won 25 games, two fewer than Wenger’s last 50 games at the club.

Somehow, with a £209.29 milliion investment across several windows, the 48-year-old has managed to make Arsenal worse. At least in Wenger’s days Arsenal looked decent going forward whilst leaking goals at the back; now they can’t do either.

Raúl Sanllehi and Josh Kroenke now need to back up all their talk from the summer. A corporate statement won’t be enough to appease the fans; they must sack Emery during this international break, before the visit of Southampton.

Here are three reasons why the Arsenal board need to get rid of Emery before the Premier League resumes.

#3 Now or never for the Top 4

As things stand, the Gunners sit a staggering eight points off the top four places. Last weekend’s defeat to Leicester City confirmed that shocking reality.

The season is already more than a quarter of the way through, and Arsenal are closer to the bottom of the table than the top of it. Emery is losing ground every single week, with no hope of regaining it.

What you also have to bear in mind is that the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to continue being this bad; sooner or later they’re going to improve and join the top 4 race. Arsenal need to capitalize while two of their main rivals are down in the dumps.

From a business standpoint, it would be smarter to sack Emery and pay £6million in severance rather than lose out on £45 mllion at the cost of missing out on Champions League qualification. It’s time to act now.
