Mateo Kovacic has been at the heart of a young Chelsea side this season and has been the driving force from midfield. The Croatian has formed an almost unbreakable partnership with Jorginho in midfield and, in doing so, become a key player for Chelsea. At times this season, the form of Kovacic has kept the likes of N'golo Kante out of the side with Frank Lampard unwilling to take the passing master out of the lineup.

The former Real Madrid man has been the standout performer for Chelsea this season and may even go down as the signing of the season after joining permanently last summer.

#4. Tottenham Hotspurs: Dele Alli

Spurs have been on a downward spiral since suffering Champions League heartbreak 9 months ago, resulting in the departure of Mauricio Pochettino and the arrival of Jose Mourinho, who was meant to improve things. However, with 9 games to go in the current Premier League season, Spurs sit 8th and 7 points away from the top 4. Most of the Spurs squad have suffered disappointing season's so far.

But, in contrast to his teammates, Dele Alli has endured a positive spell under Mourinho and may have even saved his England career with certain performances this season. The 23-year-old has been directly involved in 14 goals, making him the standout performer in an out-of-form Spurs side.
