Premier League Power Rankings: October 2020

Who is at the top?
Who is at the top?

We've had quite an entertaining start to the new Premier League campaign. There has been an incredible amount of goals scored and no shortage of action-packed peak Premier League action.

We have also had several standout performers. Some of the newcomers have settled down with ease and got their teams ticking from the get-go while some of the old dogs don't seem to be willing to concede a yard either.

It's been a tricky start for many and some Premier League giants have struggled to find their form in this new season so far. Without further ado, let's take a look at the Premier League Power Rankings for the month of October.

#10 Alexandre Lacazette

Alexandre Lacazette was linked with an exit over the course of the summer transfer window owing to how Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had taken over the goalscoring duties entirely. But the new season has started off on a promising note for Alexandre Lacazette.

And the Frenchman has grabbed the opportunity by the scruff of its neck. Lacazette has scored three goals for Arsenal in three games so far in the Premier League. He averages a goal every 79 minutes currently.

Mikel Arteta has got a promising project in the works and if he can get both Lacazette and Aubameyang firing on all cylinders, then the Gunners will be a tough team to handle for their adversaries.

#9 Callum Wilson

One of the former Bournemouth players who have had to seek greener pastures after the Cherries suffered relegation, Callum Wilson seems to be hell bent on making the most out of his new opportunity.

Wilson secured a switch to Tyneside and it looks like he could be the one that finally settles Newcastle United's goalscoring woes. Callum Wilson has, thus far, scored four goals from four games and has also notched up an assist to go with it.

He has become the first Newcastle player to score as many as four goals in his first four Premier League appearances for the club since Les Ferdinand in 1995-96. Steve Bruce will be hoping that Callum Wilson can kick on in the same vein and keep finding the net for the Toons.

#8 Mateusz Klich

Kevin de Bruyne's former teammate at Wolfsburg, Mateusz Klich, is a welcome addition to the Premier League's set of exemplary midfielders. It's not easy to earn Marcelo Bielsa's praise but Klich has garnered that and more.

Klich has been at the centre of Leeds United's promising and entertaining start to their Premier League campaign. The midfielder who is adored by Bielsa for his workrate and tenacity has scored two goals and assisted one from midfield and looks like he's always belonged among the elite.

#7 Mohamed Salah

Though the reigning Premier League champions were dealt as embarrassing a defeat as any in their fourth outing of the new season by Aston Villa who put seven goals past them at Villa Park, Mohamed Salah has been among the goals.

It was normal services restored straight from the get-go as Salah scored a hattrick in Liverpool's season opener against Leeds United. Salah currently has five goals from four games and has looked every bit as threatening as he has over the course of the past few seasons.

The Egyptian looks set to have yet another great goalscoring season and will be at the forefront of Liverpool's Premier League title defence.

#6 Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy's having a party as Leicester get off to yet another promising start in a Premier League season. The 33-year-old has showed no signs of slowing down so far this season and continues to rake in goals for the Foxes.

He was at the fore as Leicester City trounced Manchester City 5-2 at the Etihad, scoring a hattrick against the Premier League giants whom he continues to torment. Vardy currently has five goals from four games this season.

If the Englishman can kick on in the same vein, then Leicester City can mount yet another fight for a top four place after narrowly missing out last time around.

#5 Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish
Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish is easily one of the best players in the Premier League right now. The Aston Villa man has been incredible since the start of the season and is the main reason behind the Claret and Blues sitting at second on the Premier League table having won all of their first three games.

That includes a 7-2 thumping of champions Liverpool at Villa Park where Grealish scored two and assisted three. He is neat with the ball at his feet, never shies away from taking defenders on and can pick out a pass from anywhere on the pitch.

Grealish has three goals and three assists from three games so far and given how good he has looked so far, this could be a season of redemption for Aston Villa who escaped relegation last time around by the skin of their teeth.

#4 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

What a season this is already turning out to be for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Under Carlo Ancelotti, the young forward seems to have turned a new leaf and he looks to have improved all aspects of his game to become a top goal getter.

His leap is unbelievable and his movement in and around the area impeccable. Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored hattricks in back-to-back games for the Toffees across the Premier League and the Carabao Cup.

The 23-year-old has scored six goals from four games and is one of the main reasons why Everton are sitting at the top of the Premier League table after four games.

Everton's midfield has received a major facelift but it's the way that Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been performing that has helped turn them into one of the most entertaining sides in the Premier League. He also scored on his England debut with his first ever attempt on goal for the senior side.

#3 James Rodriguez

James Rodriguez

What an inspired signing James Rodriguez is proving to be for Everton. It would be fair to say that following his underwhelming spell at Real Madrid, James had been written off in many circles. But Carlo Ancelotti, who has managed him previously at both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich wanted him at Everton for a reason.

And that was to build his team around a playmaker who can bring about a lot more dynamism to their game and Rodriguez has done exactly that. He has been a galvanizing presence at Goodison and improved Everton vastly from the get-go.

The Colombian international has scored three goals and provided two assists from four games. Form is temporary and class is permanent. He might have struggled at Real Madrid where he wasn't a central figure but Everton is the perfect place for James Rodriguez to prove to the world once again what an incredible player he is.

#2 Son Heung-Min

Son Heung-Min

Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur may have got off on the wrong foot this season, but they seem to have steadied their feet after two thumping wins against Southampton and Manchester United.

At the heart of both those resounding victories was Son Heung-Min whose pace and movement is proving to be too hot to handle for most Premier League defences. Once the 28-year-old gets going, there seems to be no stopping him.

He has now scored six goals from four games and looks hungry for more. Son never stops working on the pitch and he has struck an incredible partnership with Harry Kane at the front for Tottenham Hotspur. There's no saying how good they're going to get once Gareth Bale is fit and ready to join them in that frontline.

#1 Harry Kane

Harry Kane

Harry Kane has turned it on from the start and he has been leading Spurs from the front and looks set to torment Premier League defences over the course of the season. The Englishman has been stacking up incredible numbers already like it's no big deal.

Kane has three goals and six assists to his name already and has been an ominous presence in the final third. The versatility in his game helps keeps opposition defenders guessing and his selflessness, which is quite uncharacteristic for strikers, is a major blessing for Tottenham Hotspur.

If Harry Kane can keep his good run going, then Jose Mourinho might be able to silence his detractors once again and maybe, just maybe, get Spurs a new addition to their trophy cabinet which has only been gathering dust over the past decade or so.
