Reports: PSG want revenge on Barcelona by signing £69 million superstar
What is the story?
French champion Paris Saint-Germain are plotting revenge on Barcelona by signing the out of form attacking midfielder, Philippe Coutinho, after losing the battle to sign Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong. According to reports, the French Ligue 1 side are interested to sign the Brazilian, who joined Barcelona in the January 2018.
In case you didn’t know….
The 27-year-old, Barcelona winger had a good start to life in Spain but as time progressed, he looked out of touch and a bit shaky in the famous Blaugrana colors. In such a short career at Barcelona, he has played in the right wing, left wing, and also as a left-sided midfielder, which certainly didn’t help to grow his confidence level.
It seems a long time ago when Coutinho was playing at the peak of his prowess although it is just a year and a half in Barcelona.
In 45 appearances this season Coutinho has only managed to score 10 goals and provided 7 assists and a player of Coutinho’s class, it is certainly not up to the mark.
PSG have always desired to have Coutinho on their side even when in his Liverpool days and now again, it seems like they have renewed their interest to sign him again.
The heart of the matter…
After the failure to sign Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, PSG are now trying to get their hands on Coutinho. The Brazilian is in the front line in the choices of Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the PSG president. The reason for the interest in Coutinho from the French club is because of two reasons, mainly,
First, they want to take revenge against the Catalan side because of the failure to sign the Dutch midfielder. Secondly, they want a Brazilian who can help Neymar to enjoy his life more, on and off the field.
Rumour rating: 5/10
One has to wonder as to whether PSG actually need a player like Coutinho when they already have so many talented attackers.
This is not the first time that Coutinho has been linked with other clubs in such a short career at Barcelona but Coutinho has a buyout clause in his contract of €400 million. Whether PSG can afford this staggering amount of money is still to be seen but Coutinho’s future in Barcelona is looking a bit gloomy at this stage.
