Rafael Benitez should make a move for Torres, not Suarez

When Benitez took over Napoil after a successful, yet, troublesome time at Chelsea, his first job was about replacing Edinson Cavani. If Benitez is lucky enough to be able to keep the Uruguayan forward, he will have one of football’s most prolific and entertaining players. If he completes his expected move then Benitez will receive £50million and will have the opportunity to get some quality players to replace him.

With Luis Suarez being linked heavily with a move to Napoli at £50million, this might not be the best move for Benitez. Everyone who watched Liverpool last season will have seen the undeniable talent of Luis Suarez; his never say die attitude and exceptional dribbling made the Kop stand with anticipation every time he received the ball. His 30 goals across all competitions saved Liverpool from another totally under performing season. The racism saga and the biting episode will not be forgotten, but he has paid his dues and his season finished on a sour note. He should be allowed to play football next season with a fresh start. The English media and Suarez have had a mixed relationship and because of this he would like to leave Liverpool for family reasons. This is something which every father would do in the same situation, it’s not about Liverpool FC; it’s more than that.

Unfortunately Suarez has a habit of play acting which is one of the reasons behind the press getting on his back. In Italy. the play acting part of the game is less frowned upon than in England. This is where Suarez would suffer as if he chose to play act, then his talent will be wasted. Like Didier Drogba, he is a better player when he is on his feet in possession. If Suarez went to Napoli, the real Luis Suarez will not appear as much as it should; he is too good and should be in a League where play acting is frowned upon. He can’t afford to be allowed to slip in to poor habits. Suarez would suit the Bundesliga and could be a replacement for Robert Lewandowski at Borussia Dortmund if he was to leave. With the sale of Mario Gotze and Lewandowski, Dortmund would have the funds available if they wanted to make a splash signing.

Fernando Torres would suit Serie A and would score a lot of goals under old mentor Rafael Benitez. Whilst at Liverpool, together Torres scored 56 goals in 79 games. With this goals to game ratio Torres will be allowed the freedom which he had at Liverpool and with Hamsik, Pandev and Insigne around him at Napoli he will get the same service which he had at Liverpool. Torres is different to Suarez in Torres will play on the shoulder of the last defender. His turn of pace and calmness in one on one situations will fit into the way Benitez sets out his teams. He showed flickers of this potential at Chelsea last season in a similar tactical set up. Like Suarez, he needs a fresh start.

With Torres available at a reported £17million, Napoli could afford another player or two with the Cavani money. If Benitez had the opportunity it would be interesting to see him approach Xabi Alonso of Real Madrid. He would give the support to Hamsik in midfield but also take the pressure off his team mates with his unbelievable array of passing. If Torres went to Napoli, with some other quality signings, Cavani won’t be missed so much.
