FC Barcelona are the most successful team in the history of the Champions League Round of 16 with 21 wins over the years. The Catalan club are also second on the list of the highest number of goals in this round, scoring 75.

When they met German club Bayer Leverkusen in the 2011-12 season, FC Barcelona scored an astounding 10 goals over the two legs.

Lionel Messi made Champions League history in the second leg of this tie by being the first player ever to score five goals in a single game. The seven-time Balon d'Or winner later went on to score a total of 73 goals in all competitions that season.

But the 2011-12 campaign was known for Chelsea's surprise victory over the Spanish Champions in the semi-finals. Fernando Torres scored one of the most memorable goals in the history of the European Cup at Camp Nou, handing them a bitter 3-2 defeat. The Blues later went on to final the title, defeating Bayern Munich in the final.

2004-05 Ligue 1 champions Olympique Lyon annihilated the German club Werder Bremen 10-2 over two legs in the Champions League's Round of 16. After winning the first leg comfortably by three goals, the Lyon-based club didn't get complacent in the next leg and scored a staggering seven goals.

Two-time Premier League winner Sylvain Wiltord scored the highest number of goals in this tie. The french winger struck four goals over two legs, one away goal and then a hat-trick in the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

The French club then went on to lose to PSV Eindhoven in the next round 2-4 on penalties at the end of the second leg.

The matchup also holds the record of being the highest-scoring tie in the competition's history with 13 goals. Joao Moutinho scored the only consolation goal for Sporting CP in the second leg.

The Bavarian giants were handed embarrassment in the quarter-finals versus FC Barcelona, where they lost 5-1 to the Catalan club.
