What's the story?

It appears Pep Guardiola wants to call a truce with Santiago Solari as the Manchester City boss has now responded to the Blancos manager's comments on the best team in the world and has attempted to clarify why he does not think Real Madrid is the best team of the decade.

In case you didn't know...

Over a week ago, Guardiola riled Solari up when he named Juventus, Bayern Munich and Barcelona as the best teams in the last decade.

The former Barca boss said (via Goal), "I've said many times: who are the best teams in the last decade? Juventus, Bayern Munich, Barcelona. These are the three best teams in Europe. Why? Because every season they win the league, every season they win the cups, every season they are there. Because they are the best."

In a separate press conference, Solari hit out at Guardiola for disregarding Los Blancos completely saying (via Goal), "I think the omission of Real Madrid is deliberate. But we are not going to argue about one decade or another when Real Madrid is the best club of the century, and in history."

"And also in the last decade, anyway. It’s because Real don't underestimate any rival."

The heart of the matter

Guardiola has now clarified that while Real may be the best team in Europe, it is certainly not the best in the last decade when it comes to "leagues and cups".

The City boss said (via Goal), "Thank you so much, but I will be nice for the Madrid supporters, who are upset with me, who are saying the best team in Europe is Real Madrid."

"Because in the last three years they won and I think they are the best team by far in Europe in the last decade, and the best team is Real Madrid."

"But Real Madrid not the best team of the decade when you count leagues and cups and the other ones because Juventus, Barcelona and Bayern Munich won six or seven times and they [Madrid] won two."

"I am pretty sure that Solari now understands my answer better. I am pretty sure they are happy now with me."

What's next?

It remains to be seen whether Solari will respond to Pep's comments.

While Manchester City will face Chelsea in the hopes of extending the gap in the Premier League top three, Real will take on Atletico Madrid later tonight.
