What's the story?

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have reached an agreement with Juventus to sign Gonzalo Higuain on loan until the end of the season, with an option to extend for another year depending on the accomplishment of certain targets in the second half of the season.

This means that the ex-Real Madrid ace will cut short his loan with AC Milan where he has been since the start of this season, with an option to buy at the end of the season.

In case you didn't know...

Chelsea have already completed the signing of Christian Pulisic, who will move at the end of the season, from Borussia Dortmund.

As for Higuain, Maurizio Sarri, who has first-hand knowledge of his style of play, is a long-term admirer of the 31-year-old since his days at Napoli. In the meantime, AC Milan continue to keep close tabs on Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek, who is their priority at the moment.

The heart of the matter...

Higuain's arrival at Stamford Bridge spells doom for Morata's career at Chelsea. The Spain international has failed to make the grade since his transfer from Real Madrid and his exit seems inevitable as it stands. At present, a number of Spanish clubs are contending for his signature.

It is believed that Higuain, who is known for his excellent goal-scoring milestones, can put an end to Chelsea's woes up front. The Argentine was left on the bench as AC Milan suffered a Supercoppa Italiana loss to Juventus on Wednesday evening.

Rumour rating: 9/10

Sky Sports is one of the most reliable sources in terms of football transfer news. Higuain has been heavily linked with Chelsea for quite some time and the Blues were strongly vying for his services.
