Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur - Carabao Cup: Semi-Final Second Leg
Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur - Carabao Cup: Semi-Final Second Leg

What's the story?

According to AS, Real Madrid have made Eden Hazard their No.1 target as they look to undertake a major overhaul in the upcoming summer transfer window. The report claims that Los Blancos have already ended their pursuit of Tottenham's Christian Eriksen, who is also being eyed by Manchester United and Chelsea at the moment.

Quite surprisingly, the Spanish outlet also reports that Real Madrid are even readying themselves for potential replacements for their star men - Marcelo and Luka Modric - both of whom have been linked to Juventus and Inter Milan respectively.

In case you didn't know...

Real Madrid have long been embroiled in the pursuit of Eden Hazard, who has intimated his interest to play for Real Madrid on a number of occasions. The Belgian's current contract with the Blues is set to expire in June 2020.

Previous reports suggested that Hazard is eager to move to Real Madrid, but has asked them to hold fire until the end of the season. He has already rejected Chelsea's attempts to tie him down to a long-term contract.

The heart of the matter...

As per Transfermarkt, Eden Hazard is currently valued at €150 million, but Real Madrid are not willing to cough up anything more than €100 million considering the present circumstances.

Hazard has enjoyed a stellar season so far and with him only 28 years old and at the peak of his power, his market value is only bound to increase in the coming years. The Spanish giants are acutely aware of his immense significance and are keen to rebuild a squad that centres around him.

Rumour rating: 7/10

Real Madrid are in dire need of a marquee signing following a disastrous campaign. They don't have many leading lights in their squad at present and as such, Hazard's arrival could be a godsend to them.

What's next?

Real Madrid will play Girona next in the second leg of Copa del Rey quarter-finals while Chelsea will go head-to-head against Bournemouth in the Premier League on 30 January.
