What’s the rumour?

Barcelona's Ivan Rakitic has been the subject of a lot of speculation in recent months as a number of top-quality clubs continue to keep close tabs on former Sevilla ace. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Croatia international is currently on the radar of four high-profile clubs, namely Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, and Bayern Munich.

In case you didn’t know…

With 4 goals and seven assists across all competitions this season, Ivan Rakitic is undoubtedly a vital cog in Ernesto Valverde's FC Barcelona. However, he's now entering into the twilight of his career as he turns 31 next month.

Speaking of Barcelona's midfield department, La Blaugrana have already acquired Arturo Vidal from Bayern Munich and Arthur from Gremio in the summer. They are also set to add Frenkie De Jong to their uber-talented squad, who will join the club on a five-year deal at the end of the season from Ajax.

The heart of the matter

As things stand, Rakitic seems to be determined to stay put at the Camp Nou for another couple of years. Following Barcelona's 4-2 win against Sevilla this week, he told the reporters:

"I have three more years on my contract, I want to stay here. I'm full of pride that big clubs ask for me, if they do. I only see myself at Barcelona, it makes me laugh a little when I have my morning coffee."

Nevertheless, it's no news that the Croatian playmaker is demanding a new contract, but the club are not planning on opening negotiations at the moment.

Rumour rating: 7/10

With a cram-full midfield department, there are chances that Barcelona will look to free up some space on the wage bill. Consequently, they could cash in on the Croat and strike while the iron is hot.

Ivan Raktic's future at the Camp Nou largely depends on Barcelona's triumphs this season. He is a vital part of Valverde's plans and would have to play to the best of his abilities if the Catalan giants are to end the season on a high note.
