Reports: Chelsea negotiating £12m cut-price deal for Atletico Madrid’s Filipe Luis

Chelsea are hoping to seal Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis is a cut-price deal worth a rumoured £12 million, according to Marca.

Luis, who turns 28 this summer, has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea all summer and Atletico Madrid would like to recoup at least £20m for the Brazilian after a fantastic season in Spain.

The left-back, who missed out on Brazil’s World Cup squad, had a superb season in Spain last season as Atletico won their first La Liga title since 1996 and reached the Champions League final, which they were just a minute away from winning.

Atleti are clearly resigned to losing Luis after signing his replacement in the form of Benfica’s Guillermo Siqueira but would still like to get plenty of money in return for the Brazilian who Chelsea have targeted instead of Southampton’s Luke Shaw.

The Blues are trying to sign Luis in a cheap, cut-price deal as spending £20m on a soon-to-be 28-year-old full-back is a lot of money and could be quite the risk. Given that the Spaniards have already signed a replacement, though, the Blues do have an upper hand in the negotiations and could sign him for lower than his release clause.

However, a bid as little as £12m is going to be difficult to sign the full-back, given his talents.
