What's the story?

N'Golo Kante is on the verge of inking a new deal with Chelsea, according to reports in The Telegraph. He could earn up to £300,000-a-week and thereby, become the club's highest paid player by leapfrogging Eden Hazard, who earns around £200,000-a-week.

The deal is said to run for a staggering five-year period. For his services and satisfaction at Stamford Bridge, he could be awarded this huge offer.

In case you didn't know...

Since switching from Leicester City to Chelsea, Kante has risen to become one of the best in the Premier League, if not Europe. He has won the league and the FA Cup with the Blues. He also won the FIFA World Cup with France earlier this year.

The heart of the matter

The 27-year-old has started every game for Sarri's side in the league this term, despite having been pushed to an advanced role in a three-man midfield.

He still remains as one of Chelsea's most important players, owing to his energy in midfield, sharp tackling and quick decision-making capabilities. His host of professional attributes and skills on the field led to interest from clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United as well.

The midfielder's contract is in the hands of lawyers before being officially announced and reviewed, but the West Londoners are confident they can tie their talisman to a new deal that will see him earn almost double of his present wages - £150,000-a-week.

Kante is a serious live wire on the football pitch. His ability to read the game, plan the next move and spray passes all around the pitch make him one of the finest in the footballing world.

What's next?

Not many will argue against N'Golo Kante's consistency, drive and passion for the club and the beautiful game. Week-in-week-out, he goes out there and does his job without any fuss. Should he continue this performance level and consistency, he is sure to go down as one of Chelsea's best football players.

Meanwhile, the Blues face off against fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley as Premier League action returns after a rather busy international break.
