What’s the rumour?

Chelsea and Manchester United target Ivan Rakitic has agreed to join Inter this summer according to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport via AS. The Nerazzurri were linked with Luka Modric but may have turned their attention towards his compatriot.

In case you didn’t know…

Ivan Rakitic’s agent Arturo Canales had only recently claimed that the player wants to stay at Barcelona.

“Ivan wants to leave Spain in the summer? That's not possible,” Arturo Canales said.

His words came only a week after Rakitic himself claimed: “I would like to renew and stay for many years.”

The heart of the matter

But it seems as though Barcelona’s reluctance to offer him a new deal might have changed the mind of the midfielder. The report claims that the midfielder thinks that the arrival of Frenkie De Jong and the possible signing of Adrien Rabiot might reduce his importance at the club.

The report further adds that the Italian outfit are willing to pay €90 million to Barcelona and offer the player a contract worth €5 million-per-season, which is close to what he earns at the Camp Nou.

Rumour possibility/rating: 5/10

Inter might as well make an attempt for Ivan Rakitic but it is quite unrealistic to think that the Nerazzurri would offer such a huge amount of money for a player set to turn 31 in March. This might very well be the Croat’s last season and as good as he is, it is unlikely that he would bring so much money for the Catalans.

What’s next?

Ivan Rakitic might be playing his last season but he is a very crucial aspect of Barcelona’s system right now. So, Valverde will hope that the Croat continues his good form instead of being focused about the future.
