What's the rumour?

Paris Saint-Germain star Adrien Rabiot has reportedly reached an agreement to sign for LaLiga giants Barcelona on a five-year contract.

In case you didn't know...

Rabiot's relationship with PSG has broken down in recent months following the Frenchman's refusal to sign a new deal with the club.

The situation further escalated with PSG sporting director Antero Henrique revealing that the midfielder will be "indefinitely benched". He said (via ESPN), "At this point, no. It was a decision made by the club following a meeting I had with the player."

"The player informed me that he would not sign a contract and that he wanted to leave the club by being free at the end of the season."

"For the player, this will have a very clear consequence: he will remain on the bench for an indefinite period."

The heart of the matter

According to Paris United, the 23-year-old midfielder has reached an agreement to sign a five-year contract with Barcelona, which will see him earn roughly €10m a year in salary and another €10m signing bonus. He will join the club for free in the summer.

Rabiot looks set to leave the Ligue 1 champions with his deal at the Parc des Princes running out at the end of the season. The midfielder has also garnered a lot of interest from big clubs like Liverpool and Juventus.

Last month, Barca boss Ernesto Valverde gave no clue to reporters when asked about a potential deal. He said, "These are questions about other clubs."

"We don't tend to poke our noses where they don't belong, we have enough to worry about without worrying about other clubs.

"I'd rather not comment for that reason, it's not up to me to talk about that player and that club."

Tuchel, on the other hand, was doubtful of Rabiot finishing the season with PSG (via The Mirror UK): "I cannot guarantee that Adrien will finish the season with us. Because it is still the same thing. He did not say yes to PSG. And as a result of that, everything is possible."

Rumour rating: 8/10

Rabiot has been a long-term target for Barcelona. With the club set to release players like Denis Suarez among others, they need additional resources in midfield and Rabiot fits the bill.

Paris United is a reliable source when it comes to Ligue 1 news and there is no reason to doubt this report.

Rabiot is all set to line up for Barcelona in the summer. With a deal almost completed, it is unlikely he will get any game time this season for PSG.
