Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Diogo Costa from FC Porto. The Blues are looking to bring in a goalkeeper as they are not happy with Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen.
As per a report in CaughtOffside, Chelsea are looking to go big for a goalkeeper in 2025. They see Cristiano Ronaldo's national teammate, Diogo Costa, as the ideal player to come in and help them between the posts.
FC Porto are not looking to sell their star player and will demand an astronomical amount to let go of the Portuguese star. The report claims they will demand at least €70 million to even think about a possible sale.
The Blues' fans have are frustrated with Sanchez after his poor display against Newcastle United and called for him to be benched.
However, Maresca has stated that he has no plans to drop the Spaianrd and said:
"If Robert makes a mistake, it's not Robert's problem, it's my mistake because I asked that from Robert. I am very happy with Robert and the way he is playing, building from the back. Sometimes you make mistakes but it is not going to change the way we are going to play."
Enzo Maresca's side have several goalkeepers out on loan this season and they are expected to come back in the summer. Kepa Arrizabalaga, Gabriel Slonina, Eddie Beach, Djordje Petrovic and Mike Penders are the goalkeepers who have been loaned out.
Chelsea told Robert Sanchez is not good enough by former player
Emmanuel Petit has claimed that Robert Sanchez is not good enough and should be replaced by Chelsea. The former Arsenal player believes that the Spaniard does not give the defenders confidence between the post and has suggested replacements.
Petit has recommended Mike Maignan and Lucas Chevalier to the Blues and said:
"I was not convinced at all by Robert Sanchez against Liverpool. He came off his line badly, didn’t give assurance to the defence and so for me, it was obvious that he was nowhere near the level to be on the pitch. I think he’s a good goalkeeper but he’s not good enough for Chelsea, especially if you look at who they have had in the past like Petr Cech. There is two French goalkeepers who I love. Mike Maignan, of AC Milan, but he will probably be too expensive."
"However, Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier has been marvellous in recent years and has been making miracles in the goal. I really think he could be the answer to Chelsea’s goalkeeping problems. When you look at his game against Real Madrid, he was incredible and saved huge chances from Mbappe and Vini Jr and they couldn’t believe how good he was. Chelsea need to focus on a new goalkeeper instead of a striker, as Jackson has shown he is good enough."
The Blues are fifth in the Premier League table and are looking to finish in the top 4 this season. They have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup but are doing well in the UEFA Conference League.
