Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku could be sold for less than his £65 million valuation this summer. Bayern Munich are interested in signing the Frenchman.
The Blues signed Nkunku from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 for a reported fee of £52 million. However, he has been unable to make a big impact. He had to face numerous injury issues in his first season at the club, making just 14 appearances across competitions.
In the 2024-25 season, Nkunku recorded 14 goals and five assists in 42 games across competitions for Chelsea. However, only three of those goals came in the Premier League as they started just nine games in the league. He mostly started in the cup games early in the season, as Nicolas Jackson was Enzo Maresca's first-choice striker.
As per Football.London, Nkunku could now leave Stamford Bridge this summer. His contract expires in 2029, and the Blues value him at £65 million, but he could leave for a lower fee. Bayern Munich are interested in bringing him back to the Bundesliga.
Nkunku shares the same agent, Pini Zahavi, as Bayern stars Leroy Sane and Jonathan Tah. The Frenchman recorded 47 goals and 43 assists in 119 Bundesliga games during his time with RB Leipzig.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca on FIFA Club World Cup
The Blues had a successful 2024-25 campaign, winning the UEFA Europa Conference League and finishing fourth in the Premier League. They will now travel to the United States to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Ahead of the tournament, manager Enzo Maresca explained that the club's aim is to win every game and every tournament they take part in. He said (via Daily Express):
When you are at Chelsea, your goal is always to win. Our goal - each and every single game - will always be to try to win them all. When we’re there, that will be one of our goals. to try to win it.
“We were there last summer, and it’s pretty great. The fans were mind-blowing from the get-go in America. There were many fans there and it’s an opportunity for them to come to watch us and for us to meet them. There’s no doubt that it will be a great occasion.”
Chelsea will begin their campaign against Club Leon on June 16. They will then face Flamengo on June 20 and ES Tunis on June 24 in the group stage.
