Liverpool eye surprise move for Newcastle United player

Liverpool are reportedly plotting a surprise swoop for £40 million-rated Newcastle United youngster Yankuba Minteh. As claimed by The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards via Liverpool Offside, Arne Slot could be plotting a reunion with the Gambia international he managed at Feyenoord last season.

Newcastle United find themselves in a tricky situation financially as they need to balance their books to comply with the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules. Star players like Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak have been strongly linked with exits.

However, another player who could be potentially heading the exit door is Minteh, who is yet to make a single appearance for the Magpies. The highly rated teenager had a solid season last time out under Arne Slot at Feyenoord, catching Liverpool's eye.

Minteh was one of Feyenoord's top performers last season with 11 goals and six assists in 37 appearances across competitions. A left-footed right winger with blistering pace, technique and flair, he could be the long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah at Anfield.

Aged just 19, Minteh has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the last few years having only moved to Europe from Gambia in 2022 as a 17-year-old. He joined Danish side Odense Boldklub in 2022 and was snapped up by Newcastle United for around £6 million last summer.

Eddie Howe decided to loan the promising youngster out to Feyenoord last season where he did a brilliant job. However, the Tynesiders could now lose the gifted youngster.

Liverpool make shock contract offer to 37-year-old: Reports

Liverpool have reportedly offered a contract to veteran goalkeeper Adrian, who has his current deal at Anfield expiring this month. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the 37-year-old has been offered a new deal although the duo of Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip are set to leave as free agents.

Adrian has been the Reds' third-choice keeper behind Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher. The Spaniard's last appearance for the Merseyside giants was back in July 2022 in the Community Shield victory over Manchester City.

The former Real Betis custodian has made a total of 26 appearances for Liverpool since joining the club in 2019 on a free transfer. He has kept seven clean sheets in the process while conceding 36 goals.

The Reds' decision to reward Adrian with a new deal sparks surprise because he has made just two first-team appearances in the last three seasons. He did not feature at all last season for Jurgen Klopp's side.
