Liverpool and Manchester City are reportedly set to receive a big blow in their pursuit of Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes in the future.
Guimaraes, 27, has established himself as a vital starter for the Magpies since departing Olympique Lyonnais in a potential £42 million transfer in January 2022. He has helped his current club lift one EFL Cup so far.
The Brazilian has started 40 of his 45 overall appearances for Newcastle so far this season. The right-footed midfielder, who has reportedly been linked with Liverpool and Manchester City since last summer, has netted five goals and provided eight assists for his club this term.
Now, according to The Boot Room, Newcastle are set to offer Guimaraes a new contract to ward off interest from top clubs. They are aiming to tie the midfielder down to a new deal to remove his £100 million exit clause.
The Liverpool target's current contract is set to run out in June 2028.
Fabrizio Romano sheds light on Liverpool's reported interest in Manchester City superstar
Last month, Kevin De Bruyne announced he will depart Manchester City.
After City's 1-0 FA Cup final loss to Crystal Palace earlier on Saturday, De Bruyne was queried whether he is keen to remain in the Premier League. He replied (h/t Rousing The Kop):
"I want to play good football, whatever the decision will be. I know you're trying to guess where I'm going to go. I will make my decision and you guys will know when I know. I don't know, it depends who comes. Like I said to my Belgian colleagues, I have a family, I have young kids, I have to take care to make a decision that suits all of us, not just me."
Following De Bruyne's comments about his future, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano provided insight into the midfielder's future. He remarked on his YouTube channel (h/t Rousing The Kop):
"De Bruyne has an important proposal on the table from Chicago Fire in terms of money. Also, we know how Napoli are interested. No contacts with Liverpool... [the Reds] are not in the mix for De Bruyne from what we've been told. Let's see what happens there. My understanding is that from next week, the conversation for De Bruyne will become concrete."
De Bruyne, whose current deal will expire next month, has made 38 total appearances for Manchester City this term. The 33-year-old has netted six goals and laid out eight assists for his side so far.
