AC Milan are reportedly looking to snap up Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, but the Uruguayan is also being coveted by Napoli, Milan's domestic rivals, who won the Serie A title in the recently concluded season.

Nunez, 25, is coming off a rather forgettable season for the Premier League champions, playing a fringe role in their league-winning campaign, with five goals and three assists in 30 games, starting 11. Overall, he played 47 times across competitions, contributing seven goals and as many assists, starting 17 times.

Despite being contracted to Anfield till 2028, Nunez faces an uncertain future at the club, as he has fallen down the pecking order under boss Arne Slot. Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) says that there's interest in the striker from Napoli as well as Milan.

However, Nunez's reported €4.7 million salary (after taxes) could dissuade both Serie A sides, nevertheless with Milan yearning for a No. 9, a deal could still materialise. Having rejected a move to Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal, Nunez could flourish in the Italian top flight, with Antonio Conte's Napoli also offering him UEFA Champions League football, unlike the Rossoneri.

Liverpool and AC Milan are coming off contrasting seasons. While the Reds enjoyed success in the domestic league - winning the title - the Rossoneri stuttered to a lowly eighth-placed finish and failed to qualify for Europe.

Arne Slot's Reds won their second Premier League title in six years, ending Manchester City's four-year stranglehold and adding to their maiden triumph in the COVID-19-affected 2019-20 campaign. It took them level with arch-rivals Manchester United (20) for the most English top flight titles.

Slot's side also fared decently in the domestic cups. While they lost early in the FA Cup, they reached the EFL Cup final, where they lost 2-1 to Newcastle United. The Reds, though, flattered to deceive in Europe.

After an impressive new-look group phase campaign, they fell in the first knockout out round (Round of 16) to eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain on penalties following a 1-0 home loss in the second leg after extra time.

Meanwhile, AC Milan - as mentioned earlier - endured a forgettable league campaign but fared better in the domestic cups. Paulo Fonseca's side won the Supercoppa Italiana and reached the Coppa Italia final, losing 1-0 to Bologna.

In the UEFA Champions League, they fell 2-1 on aggregate to Feyenoord in the knockout phase play-off following a 1-1 home draw in the second leg.
