Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli, popularly known as S.S.C Napoli or simply Napoli is a professional Italian football club plying its trade in the top flight known as Serie A. Founded on the 1st of August, 1926, the club has the 4th biggest fanbase in Italy.
Napoli are also referred to, from time to time, as Partenopei, Gli Azzurri (The Light Blues) and Ciucciarelli (The Little Donkeys). Stadio San Paolo is the homeground of Napoli. Their home colours Blue and White is quite iconic.
Napoli has been home to some of the greatest players to have ever graced the game. Diego Maradona, Gianfranco Zola, Careca, Fabio Cannavaro, Edinson Cavani, Gonzalo Higuain etc. have all played for the club at some point in their career.
Napoli has won the league title twice in history and the Coppa Italia 5 times. They have won the Suppercopa Italiana twice and have also won the 1988-89 UEFA Super Cup.
Napoli are pretty active in the transfer market. Some of their recent signings are as follows.
Nikola Maksimovic joined from Torino for €20 million. Marko Rog, the midfielder, was bought from Dinamo Zagreb for €13 million. Roberto Inglese and Adam Ounas from Chievo Verona and G.Bordeaux respectively for €10 million each.
Duvan Zapata went to Sampdoria for €3 million (loan fee). Ivan Strinic was sold to Sampdoria for €2 million. Eddy Gnahore was sold to US Palermo for a fee of €1.5 millon.
