Atletico Madrid insist that they will be able to keep hold of their prized assets in the summer in spite of Premier League interest. The capital’s second side are currently engulfed in the La Liga title race, but have seen both Diego Costa and Koke linked with moves away from the club. However the club’s sporting director Andrea Berta told Italian TV channel Tele Radio Stereo that he believes that they can keep their star players for another year.
In recent years, Atletico have become used to seeing their star players leave. David De Gea, Falcao and Sergio Aguero are amongst the players to have left the Estadio Vicente Calderón in recent years. Manchester United have been repeatedly linked with a move for Koke, whilst Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked with summer moves for Diego Costa.
However Bertra believes that they can withstand bids, saying:
“Atletico is a club which, due to its nature, must sell every year. [But] we believe we can have our players at least one year more.”
Costa and Koke have been the stand out performers in a season that has so far taken Atletico to second in La Liga. Costa leads the club’s scoring charts with 19 goals, whilst Koke has scored four goals and provided eight assists.
Costa has scored 40% of Atletico’s league goals this season.
