Reports indicate that Liverpool have won the race to sign Xherdan Shaqiri from Bayern Munich and so Inter Milan will not be able to lure him to the San Siro. The Swiss winger is set to leave Bayern Munich this month, with his lack of playing time for Bayern making it necessary for him to take this step.

It has been claimed that Liverpool offered 1.5 million Euros to loan Shaqiri and stop his potential move to Serie A. Liverpool hope to get Shaqiri on loan until the end of the season and then will look forward to strike a permanent deal for 8 million Euros in the summer.

What turned the tables for Liverpool and put them in the driving seat was that the wage they offered Shaqiri was 10,000 Euros a week more than the wage offered by Internazionale and this led to the move potentially working in their favour. The winger, who relies on his pace and power, could work very well in the Premier League and would be a great addition to the Liverpool squad.

Inter Milan were very keen on bagging Shaqiri, but their need for a wide forward was satisfied with the capture of Lukas Podolski from Arsenal. Podolski too quit Arsenal due to a lack of first team action.
