Rumour: Manchester City captain may be heading to Turkey

Kompany on his way to Turkey?

As per The Sun, it is rumored that Turkish club Besiktas are interested in signing Vincent Kompany. A meeting has already taken place between the two club officials and Besiktas expects to complete the deal within a week. They are preparing to bid £25 million to prize him away from City. If this deal goes through, it might be a major shock for the Man City fans to see their captain depart before the start of the 2016-17 Premier League season.

Besiktas Club president Fikret Orman confirmed the meeting and is confident enough to wrap up a deal soon. However, the only thing that may create a problem is the high wage demand of the player. Kompany currently pockets £130,000 per week and it remains to be seen whether it will be matched or not.

Kompany missed the majority of the last season as well as Belgium’s UEFA Euro 2016 run due to injuries but hopes to come back stronger and lead his team again as City start their new era under Pep Guardiola. Pep is speculated to be undecided regarding Kompany’s future although he expects the player to remain captain, provided he is fit.

Arriving from Hamburg in 2008 as a 22-year-old, Kompany was handed the club captaincy in the 2011-12 season as he marshaled Manchester City to their first league title in 44 years. He has played 298 games and scored 14 times while having a major role in City’s rise to prominence in the last decade.

City’s interest in promising England defender John Stones seems to be gaining weight as the transfer window progresses. This may certainly pave the way for the Turkish giants to materialize the deal soon enough. Though Pep seems to be quite happy to have Kompany in his set up, it remains to be seen how the club’s stance change if the Stones deal indeed goes through.

It remains to be seen how the player reacts, but in this scenario, Kompany might have played his last game for City, which was the UCL semi-final tie against Real Madrid, where he limped off to see his team lose. Given the fact how he is troubled by injury in recent times, a £25 million for a 30 year age defender might tempt City to accept the bid which could see Kompany moving to the current Turkish League holders.
