Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who is one of several highly rated youngster’s on loan from the West Londoners across Europe, could be set for a sensational move to Real Madrid, reports the Daily Star.
The Belgian is yet to make a first team appearance for Chelsea and is currently on loan at Madrid’s city rivals Atletico, where he has earned a reputation as one of La Liga’s best shot stoppers.
However, the 21 year-old has grown frustrated at the lack of opportunities at Chelsea, with Jose Mourinho preferring to keep him overseas rather than challenge Petr Cech for the number one spot in London. Cech’s best years appeared to be behind him last season, but a resurgence in form has kept Courtois down the pecking order.
But with his contract set to expire soon Courtois is believed to be interested in a move away from Stamford Bridge and Carlo Ancelotti’s Madrid are ready to swoop for the youngster and offer up to £20 million for his services.
Chelsea will be reluctant to allow the goalkeeper, who arrived from Genk in 2011, to leave while Atletico Madrid are also set to table a bid as Courtois has become a key figure in Diego Simeone’s side.
Thibaut Courtois has conceded an average of 0.67 goals per game this season compared to Petr Cech’s 0.87.
