Rumours: AC Milan bid for Mateo Musacchio, consider move for Andre Gomes
AC Milan are looking to invest in the squad and have earmarked a few players for the upcoming season.
AC Milan's transfer market finally seems to be rolling into gear now that the details of their takeover are being finalised. The Italian giants are on the verge of being bought by a Chinese conglomerate backed by the state and are believed to have a substantial transfer kitty to rebuild their squad.
Vincenzo Montella was only recently confirmed as the new head coach for the 7 time European Champions and he's already got to work and submitted a list of transfer targets that he would like to see in his squad. Finding a partner for Alessio Romagnoli at centre-back seems a priority and Milan have already made a bid for Mateo Musacchio according to Sky Italia.
The 25-year-old Villarreal centre-back has been on the radar of the biggest clubs for a couple of years now, as his promising performances for in La Liga and continental competitions haven't gone unnoticed. The Yellow Submarines are said to be holding out for €25 million, while Milan's bid currently stands at €18 million.
The Rossoneri have already found an agreement with Musacchio's agent and could possibly close the deal soon. In case they aren't able to find a middle ground with Villareal though, Jonathan Tah, Bayer Leverkusen's centre-back is said to be an alternative. Montella is believed to be interested in Mehdi Benatia as well, but the Moroccan is close to finalising a transfer to Juventus.
Musacchio is comfortable with the ball at his feet and is excellent at making crucial interceptions and tackling and could be a brilliant player to partner with Romagnoli, the Italian who had a good first season with Milan. There could be exciting times ahead for Milan fans, with Adriano Galliani, their current CEO hard at work in securing Montella's targets for the 2016-17 Serie A season.
Midfield is also considered an area where Milan must make substantial improvements and Montella's desired targets are said to include Borja Valero, Leandro Paredes, Matteo Kovacic and Piotr Zielinski. If a considerable budget is allowed the club might even look to target Andre Gomes, the Valencia midfielder also being pursued by Manchester United and Juventus.
