Reports: Premier League superstar fractures rib in car accident
What’s the story?
Sergio Aguero has been involved in a car accident according to ESPN Sources. The report claims that he was in The Netherlands and was riding in a taxi when the accident took place.
In case you didn’t know...
This is the 2nd big blow to Manchester City in less than 12 hours. Benjamin Mendy was ruled out for the season with an ACL last night.
The heart of the matter
Early reports claim that Sergio Aguero will be out for at least 2 months. He has reportedly fractured his rib and is now in the hospital.
He was on his way to the airport after attending a concert by Maluma, a Colombian singer, according to ESPN. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and hit a column on the side of the road.
Aguero is now set to miss six to eight weeks as he recovers from his injury. The Argentine will miss Manchester City tough schedule and also the crucial part of Argentina's World Cup Qualifiers.
Manchester City face Chelsea this Saturday and Aguero was set to start up front for the Citizens. However, with this injury, Pep Guardiola will have to opt for Gabriel Jesus up front and also change his formation.
Apart from the Chelsea clash, the matches Aguero will miss for ManCity include Stoke City (H), Burnley (H), West Bromwich Albion (A), Arsenal (H), Leicester City (A) in the Premier League and Feyenoord (H) and Napoli (home & away) in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, for Argentine, he will miss the crucial World Cup qualifiers against Peru on October 5th and Ecuador on October 10th. Both must win games for his country as they struggle to qualify for the World Cup in Russia next year.
It's going from bad to worse for Manchester City right now. Guardiola will have some tough decisions to make as the picture schedule is a busy one and also includes some tough matches.
We wish Aguero a quick recovery and hope to see him in action very soon. Luckily for all, the accident was not a major one and it keeps him out for 'just' 2 months.
