Serie A: Team of the Week - Gameweek 4

AC Milan v SSC Napoli - Serie A

Pepe Reina was instrumental in Napoli’s victory

The Serie A season entered its fourth round and was dominated by three teams as Roma and Napoli continued their perfect starts with key wins, and Inter recorded biggest victory in Italy for seven years.

The week saw Fiorentina maintain their impressive start to the campaign whilst Verona threatened to cause an upset at Juventus.

The Napoli men recorded a 2-1 victory in an eventful game and feature most in the Team of the Week.

Goalkeeper: Pepe Reina, Napoli

Pepe Reina achieved something nobody else had ever managed in senior football, saving a Mario Balotelli penalty to help his Napoli side to a victory at San Siro.

The Spaniard was superb, also having made a show-stopping finger-tip save from another Balotelli blockbuster. He could however, do nothing about Balotelli’s tremendous goal.

His experience in both domestic and European stage could prove vital if the Azzurri are in the hunt for trophies at the end of the season.

Centre back: Miguel Britos, Napoli

The central defender stole in and headed home the opener and continued to be dominant in the air throughout.

The Uruguayan appears to have settled in well with Raul Albiol forming a promising defensive partnership, and it was Albiol’s assist that helped Britos score.

Against Milan he coped with the runs of Balotelli and showed good determination to score the opening goal.

Centre back: Gonzalo Rodriguez, Fiorentina

The Argentine international has become a leader at the back for Vincenzo Montella’s Fiorentina.

The former Villarreal man communicates effectively with his teammates, and has a knack for predicting forward runs. It is said of him that he rarely gets beaten in a one-on-one situation.

All these attributes were on display in the away game against Atalanta this weekend, as Fiorentina came out 2-0 winners.

Left back: Federico Balzaretti, Roma

A powerhouse at the back and kept Lazio’s left flank from causing any real trouble.

He also gave Lazio a few hiccups himself on several occasions, running forward as he burst into the box and struck with a dangerous volley.

He stood true to his attacking instincts from his left back position, combining technique with good tactical awareness.

Right back: Nicolas Frey, Cheivo

The 29-year-old French right-back made two decisive tackles and kept his opposite team, both in defense and midfield, under control throughout the match.

He also assisted in the opening goal for his team as his perfect pass allowed Sergio Pellissier to score in the 2-1 win against Udinese.

Midfield: Ricky Alvarez, Inter

FC Internazionale Milano v S.S. Lazio - Serie A

Ricky Alvarez performed at the top of his game

The opponents Inter were up against, Sassuolo, were quite feeble, but Ricky Alvarez had an overall impressive game.

He has been more composed on the ball this season and has an awareness of when to play the right pass as he did on several occasions this weekend.

Inter were emphatic 7-0 winners on the night, and Alvarez is gradually becoming an integral piece of Inter’s new system as he played just behind the striker.

Midfield: Danilo D’Ambrosi, Torino

D’Ambrosi opened the scoring against Bologna with a cracking header towards the back post from teammate Alessio Cerci’s perfect cross.

He has regularly continued to rule the left flank for Torino and also helped out in defense the few times he was needed.

The Italian exhibited an all-round key performance.

Attacking Midfield: Valon Behrami, Napoli

The Swiss international showed the right combination of perseverance and technique as he helped his Napoli side gain a first win in the San Siro against AC Milan since the days of Maradona.

Behrami tracked the runs of his opponents and more often than not, played the correct pass as the team from Naples looked to attack on the counter.

Forward: Francesco Totti, Roma

The Roma legend may not have scored a goal in the derby but was continually bringing teammates into play.

Totti stood out throughout the game as the one player not afraid to receive the ball in tight situations and play in place of his team mates.

He got the ball rolling for Roma, and created the opening goal with a beautiful cross for Balzaretti.

Roma eventually came out 2-0 winners.

Forward: Carlos Tevez , Juventus

Juventus might have been lucky this weekend in avoiding a shock defeat at the hands of Verona.

He was instrumental in helping his team avoid a defeat, by scoring a great goal and was extremely unlucky not to score a second as his shot bounced off both posts, beating the keeper but not the posts.

Striker: Mario Baloteli , AC Milan

The maestro may have missed a penalty for the first time in his career, and got sent off after the final whistle, but nevertheless, scored a great goal to save face.

He was quite the only shining light in another poor performance from AC Milan. Showed the full range of his game as he provided fine balls to his teammates and beat the Napoli defenders at will.

Much like Ibrahimovic, his display outshone that of his team.
