Few people might have expected some of the outcomes we have seen this season. Ranging from Real Madrid's unexpected downturn and Manchester City's domination of the EPL to an exhilarating Serie A campaign, the 2017-18 season promises to get even more exciting with each passing day.

The story of football's strikers is entirely different from what it was last year. With the likes of Luis Suarez and Diego Costa not what they were last season and Cristiano Ronaldo's fall from grace, some other strikers are now in the spotlight and delivering the goods.

Let's have a look at five of these lethal frontmen currently active in the game.

#5 Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

Robert Lewandowski has looked menacing as usual for Bayern Munich

If you ever want to learn about being consistent in football, Robert Lewandowski is one of the giants you shouldn't forget to study about.

As for Borussia Dortmund, they will be holding more than just regret in their hearts, letting the deadly striker leave for nothing.

After netting 43 times in 47 games in all contests last season, Lewandowski has continued doing what he always does best - grabbing a surfeit of goals.

The striker already has 17 goals in his basket from 19 matches in the Bundesliga and Champions League this season. Currently, he is the league's top-scorer with 14 goals to his credit.

What is more appreciable is the fact that the Pole has performed equally well for his nation, as he has done for the Bavarians. On the international stage, he finished as the top scorer in FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifications with 16 goals.

With Real Madrid reportedly seeing the 29-year-old as a solution for their woes, it will be crucial for Munich to hold on to their star if they desire to lift the Champions League trophy. As for Los Blancos, he certainly won't come easy or cheap in January.

#4 Radamel Falcao (AS Monaco)

After those two horrendous seasons in England, Radamel Falcao's redemption is nothing short of heart-warming. El Tigre is roaring like he used to in the past, displaying his razor-sharp finishing skills on the football pitch.

The former Atletico man was a shadow of his former self at Manchester United and Chelsea, scoring just 5 times in 41 appearances for both clubs.

However, the Colombian has resurrected himself after banging 16 goals in 17 games for Monaco in the Champions League and the Ligue 1 this season.

Having crossed 30, it is evident that the striker still has a lot of goals left to deliver. With 14 league goals to his credit, scoring a goal every 79 minutes, he is only three goals behind top scorer Edinson Cavani in France.

Needless to say, Falcao is bound to provide a stiff competition for the Uruguayan as the league progresses.

#3 Ciro Immobile (Lazio)

Ciro Immobile has been in red-hot form for Lazio this season

Ciro Immobile is one of the main reasons why you should be watching the Serie A right now. His meteoric rise is appreciable, considering his torrid spell with German outfit Borussia Dortmund where he was loaned out twice.

After joining Lazio last season, Immobile netted 26 times in 41 appearances in all contests.

At present, he has already found the net 17 times in 17 games in the Serie A and the Europa League. Adding to that, he has also been a prolific playmaker for the Biancocelesti, providing 6 assists to his teammates.

Locked in a tussle with Inter striker Mauro Icardi for the Capocannoniere, the 27-year-old has been as effective as his rival in crucial games.

He scored a brace in an exciting Italian Super Cup face-off against Juventus this season. Adding to that, he has also banged a hattrick against AC Milan, another brace against the Bianconeri and a goal against AS Roma in the league.

Quite the man to have on big occasions, isn't he?

#2 Mauro Icardi (Inter Milan)

Mauro Icardi has been an absolute animal in the box this season, appearing more and more ruthless every time he takes to the pitch. Thanks to his accurate goal-scoring abilities, the Nerrazurri skipper is already amongst Inter's top 10 greatest goal-scorers. He has scored 94 times for Internazionale, since joining the club in 2013.

The Argentinian finished with 14 goals in the first half of last season.

As of now, he already has an astonishing 16 in 15 league games to brag about. Apart from being Inter's best performer, the 24-year-old has also proven to be the most important player for the Italians, scoring a brace against AS Roma and completing a last-minute hattrick against AC Milan.

Inter Milan are on a road to redemption and are currently atop the Serie A standings.

Retaining Icardi will be crucial for Luciano Spalleti's team, Real Madrid among a host of others clubs are said to be in pursuit of the striker.

#1 Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint Germain)

Long gone are the days when Edinson Cavani was forced to live in the shadow of a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Since the mighty Swede's departure, PSG has been brilliant with the Uruguayan as their spearhead.

Speaking of the present, Cavani has been acting like a hungry lion in front of goal. He has found the net 23 times in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League and in just 20 appearances.

Adding a cherry on the cake, he is just three strikes away from equalling Ibrahimovic's 156-goal haul as the all-time top scorer of the Les Parisiens.

PSG may have splashed a world-record fee to sign Neymar, but the Uruguayan has certainly shown Unai Emery how important he is to the club. He has been the highest contributor to the club's 102 goals in just 31 games, scoring 23% of the grand total.

A squabble with Neymar gave birth to the rumours of his exit earlier this season. However, with Cavani enjoying the form of his life, the club must definitely be thinking otherwise.
