New Juventus striker Carlos Tevez has admitted that he is more than happy at the prospect of being able to wear the famous number 10 jersey which was previously worn by Alessandro Del Piero, Michel Platini and Roberto Baggio.

“I’m aware of the great effort Juventus has made to bring me here,” Tevez said.

“I am aware of the great responsibility of playing for the club so this number is certainly a great challenge.”

The shirt has not seen much action since former Juventus captain Del Piero’s transfer to Sydney FC last summer.

But Tevez is not going let the pressure of high expectation get to him, and said that he was inspired by Diego Maradona, who led Boca Juniors in this shirt.

Tevez, who also played for the Argentine club, said: “Top players have worn it before and I was number 10 with Boca before, and Diego Maradona played in it too.

“The great responsibility is now that I’m going to play in this great club so certainly the greatest challenge is to do my best.

“Obviously I didn’t want to forget Del Piero, who was the last player to wear number 10. He is a person and player that I greatly respect and who certainly represents an emblem and symbol of esteem.

“It is a great pleasure and honour to wear this jersey with his number.”

Juventus, after signing an agreement with Manchester City on Tuesday, confirmed the player’s arrival on their official twitter account.

The player is also slated to team up with Juventus coach Antonio Conte for pre-season training on 12 July.
