The youth revolution at Chelsea under Frank Lampard has been nothing short of incredible, Young talents like Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James have thrived and played key roles for the first-team this season.

Another youngster with enormous potential is Billy Gilmour, who is also highly rated by Lampard has only had limited minutes to showcase his talent but has caught the eye every time he has taken to the pitch. He believes in his ability and knows he has what It takes to reach the highest level.

Gilmour has the attributes to play anywhere across the midfield, but is best as a box-to-box midfielder. He has been likened to Luka Modric in the past, He has solid composure on the ball and great vision that helps him dictate the tempo of the game. Gilmour possesses a silky touch, technique and body balance, along with vision and intelligence to create chances regularly.

One of his weaknesses is that isn’t very big but he makes up for it by being brilliant techincally with both feet. He keeps possesion of the ball well and passes it when he needs to. He also looks up to former Blues midfielder Cesc Fabregas to learn and style his game.

Considering he only turned 18 in June, the number of minutes Gilmour has played for the first-team is a very positive sign, One could make a case that If Chelsea were not stacked with quality in the midfield, Gilmour might have had a bigger role to play for the first-team, The Scottish Wonderkid has been brilliant in PL2 for the Chelsea Youth Team and also picked up the PL2 Player of The Month award in August, his impressive performances did not go unnoticed as Lampard gave him is PL debut with a cameo off the bench in a 2-2 draw against Sheffield United.

This was followed by a start in the Carabao Cup game against Grimsby Town where he was one of the best players on the pitch. His brilliant performances at Club level also resulted in him earning a call-up to the Scotland Under-21 team for the Under-21 Euro Qualifiers.

Gilmour signed for Chelsea from Rangers for a fee of around £500,000 as a 15-year old, He had been regarded as one of the brightest young Scottish prospects and has developed well at Chelsea.

His career is on the right path although it will be interesting to see what the next step of his development is, He might soon be too good to be playing PL2 football and cameo appearances for the first-team might not be an ideal situation for him, A loan move to a Championship club or to a lower-level Premier League club might make a lot of sense for him to grow and reach his full potential. He could be Chelsea's long term replacement to replace Jorginho. y the time Gilmour starts reaching his potential, Jorginho could be heading towards the end of his best footballing years and would fancy a move back home to the Serie A.
