Everyday scouts try to find a new, talented starlet, however there are many youngsters playing in the Premier League that had joined football’s elite by now. Sometimes we don’t realize when looking at a player, that he is still an U-21 footballer and has still a long future ahead. Here are the chosen top four young English Premier League players who already have entered football’s ‘big world’.
Romelu Lukaku | Chelsea [on loan at Everton]
After a successful season on loan at West Browmich Albion, the striker hoped for a place in Mourinho’s squad, nevertheless the Portuguese manager preferred having Lukaku loaned out to Everton. Scoring 17 goals in the Premier League last season the Belgian forward showed he is already a worth-buying player, who despite being only 20 years old can find the net very often. Loaning out this in-form footballer might be a considered as a mistake by the Special One, but he is one for the future to fill the void left by Drogba at Stamford Bridge unless Roman Abramovich intervenes with a big money signing.
Philippe Coutinho | Liverpool
The Brazilian midfielder showed impressive skills, after joining the Reds in January 2013 for a deal worth £8.5 million deal. It was a great move by Liverpool, as the 21-year-old ruled the Premier league midfields with outstanding passes and technique. If Coutinho continued developing the way he is, he could become one of Europe’s best midfielders in not so far future. However the main objective of the potential star is first to qualify for the Brazil national team for the World Cup this summer.
This season, the midfielder at times has shown us that he is yet to reach his potential, but with proper guidance and training the Brazilian has got all it takes to be the next best thing.
Christian Eriksen | Tottenham Hotspur
The Danish star, who had arrived at White Hart Lane in August, had a quite start at the new club, if comparing his old performances at Ajax to the ones at Tottenham. Eriksen must first adapt to the Premier League’s gamestyle though. The player has scored 2 goals in his last 5 appearances for Spurs, with the winning goal against Manchester United among them.
Although he looks more rejuvenated under Tim Sherwood there is a long road ahead of the Danish International. With Sherwood’s new 4-4-2 formation, the youngster would be blessed with more time and freedom to express his creative side of the game.
Matija Nastasi? | Manchester City
Hot prospect for the future has already played a full season in the Citizens‘ central defence, forming a strong partnership with captain Vincent Kompany. This season’s start was interrupted by the Serbian’s physical problems, nevertheless the 20-year-old is now back in action, ready to show his best in the new year. Named the next Nemanja Vidi?, Nastasi? doesn’t plan moving clubs in the nearest future, as he claims to feel happy at Manchester City after recovering from his hamstring woes.
