Lionel Messi became the first player to score five goals in a Champions League fixture as Barcelona routed the Germans by a 7-1 margin to progress to the quarterfinals of the competition. Barcelona youth product Cristian Tello also scored a brace to inflict more misery on the visitors.

Barcelona crashed out of the Champions League after being defeated by Bayern Munich later on in the competition but Lionel Messi's stunning exploits have earned this fixture a place in Barcelona folklore.

Barcelona was at its absolute peak under Pep Guardiola in 2011 and was arguably one of the best teams to have ever graced the beautiful game. The Catalans were effervescent in their style of play and demeanour on the pitch and were unstoppable in their prime.

Barcelona's performance in the second leg was only slightly short of a miracle. Barcelona's loyal servant Sergi Roberto scored the side's sixth goal with the last kick game to hand the Catalans an impossible victory and complete the most astonishing comeback in the history of the Champions League.
