Top 5 current footballers of Indian origin
Sportskeeda lists the top five current Indian-origin footballers from around the globe.
Furdjel Narsingh (PEC Zwolle)
Born in Amsterdam, Furdjel is the elder brother of current Dutch international Luciano Narsingh. The Narsingh brothers are of Indian origin – their grandparents were immigrant workers from Andhra Pradhesh – and Surinamese descent with both spending their youth careers at Zeeburgia, AZ and Ajax. Furdjel, who is three years older than Luciano, then signed a professional contract with AZ but was loaned out to second tier outfit FC Volendam. The five feet nine inches tall winger spent one entire season at Volendam and the following campaign was loaned out to another second tier team Telstar, where he spent two years.
The 25-year-old then joined PEC Zwolle in 2011 and helped them gain promotion to the Dutch top flight, the Eredivisie. He scored five times in 17 league appearances and also set up many more goals to help Zwolle win the second tier title. Much like his younger brother, Furdjel is blessed with immense pace but still isn’t the finished product yet and that was evident in the 2012-13 Dutch Eredivisie season as he only made 13 league appearances for Zwolle, who finished 11th in the 18-team league.
