Chelsea agree deal to sign superstar striker, Real Madrid to face battle from Barcelona and Chelsea for superstar target, and more: Transfer roundup, 17th January 2019
Welcome to Sportskeeda's daily transfer roundup.
We're well within the winter transfer window and the sheer volume of transfer speculation has been overwhelming, to say the least. Today, yet again, a whole new set of transfer news and rumours have emerged, involving some giant clubs and superstar players.
Today's top stories feature heavyweight clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester United, among others. They also feature some significant players from across the world who have been linked with potential moves away from their current clubs.
On that note, here is a look at the top transfer news, rumours and updates for the day:
David de Gea to sign new Manchester United deal
David de Gea joined Manchester United ahead of the 2011-2012 season and has since become one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Currently, he is widely hailed as the best in the world and has subsequently attracted a lot of attention from other European heavyweights.
Notably, he was Real Madrid's top target until they signed Thibaut Courtois. However, under Jose Mourinho, the Spanish shot-stopper was believed to be growing unhappy and had refused to commit his future to the club by signing a new contract.
Now, under the new manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Red Devils seem to have risen from the ashes as they currently sit level on points with fifth-placed Arsenal. As a result, reports from The Sun have suggested that the Spaniard could be on course to signing a new deal at the club.
The report claims that Manchester United could soon make David de Gea the world's highest-paid goalkeeper by offering him a staggering new contract which will see him earn £400,000 per week including bonuses.
