On that note, here is a look at the top transfer news, rumours and updates for the day:

David de Gea joined Manchester United ahead of the 2011-2012 season and has since become one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Currently, he is widely hailed as the best in the world and has subsequently attracted a lot of attention from other European heavyweights.

Notably, he was Real Madrid's top target until they signed Thibaut Courtois. However, under Jose Mourinho, the Spanish shot-stopper was believed to be growing unhappy and had refused to commit his future to the club by signing a new contract.

Now, under the new manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Red Devils seem to have risen from the ashes as they currently sit level on points with fifth-placed Arsenal. As a result, reports from The Sun have suggested that the Spaniard could be on course to signing a new deal at the club.

The report claims that Manchester United could soon make David de Gea the world's highest-paid goalkeeper by offering him a staggering new contract which will see him earn £400,000 per week including bonuses.

Alvaro Morata closes in on Atletico Madrid move

After signing for Chelsea for a club record fee of £70 million less than two years ago, Alvaro Morata has failed to reach the levels he was expected to. As a result, several rumours have claimed that the Spaniard could soon be on his way out of the club, should Chelsea sign an appropriate replacement.

As per reports from Sky Sports, Chelsea are keen on letting Morata go as they try to recoup as much money as they can. The 26-year-old is believed to be valued at £45 million and was reportedly pictured in Madrid earlier this week, as he closes in on a move to Atletico Madrid.

The Rojiblancos are reportedly keen on signing a striker to ease pressure off of out-of-form striker Diego Costa.

Despite becoming Barcelona's most expensive summer signing in July 2018, Malcom has struggled to establish a place for himself in the club's starting eleven. Now, according to reports from Sport, the 21-year-old is already approaching the end of his time with the Catalan giants.

As per the report, Premier League giants, Tottenham Hotspur, have already begun negotiations to sign the Brazilian on a loan deal until the end of the ongoing season. However, the deal is set to include an obligatory option-to-buy clause, which will force Spurs to sign Malcom on a permanent basis in the summer.

Meanwhile, Spurs have lost Harry Kane to injury and are set to lose Son Heung-min to national duty. Unsurprisingly, the North London-based club will be on the hunt for reinforcements and are believed to be keen on recruiting Malcom.

Tottenham Hotspur's Christian Eriksen has become one of the most sought-after footballers in Europe after some scintillating performances for the North Londoners. Recent reports have suggested that he's a high priority target for Real Madrid as the Danish superstar has refused to sign a new contract with Spurs, so far.

Now, however, reports from Talksport claim that Los Blancos are set to face "fierce competition" for the midfielder, with European giants like Barcelona and Chelsea, believed to be extremely keen on signing the 26-year-old as well.

Eriksen only has 18 months left on his current contract at Tottenham, and a source close to the player reportedly said that he was unlikely to sign a new contract. He also said:

“It’s hard to name just one particular top-level club who are keeping a close eye on him, because there are sides from England, Spain, Italy and Germany.”

Chelsea agree deal to sign Gonzalo Higuain on loan

Reports from Sky Sports claim that Chelsea have agreed on a deal to sign Juventus star Gonzalo Higuain on a loan deal until the end of the ongoing season. Higuain has been on loan at AC Milan but will now make the switch to the Premier League giants.

The reports suggest that the current deal lasts until the end of the current season, but can also be further extended for a period of 12 additional months.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have desperately been on the hunt for a quality striker to spearhead their attack up front. Notably, the aforementioned report claims that some Chelsea officials remain uncertain over whether Higuain can be the solution to Chelsea's problems.
