Luka Modric became the first person in 10 years to beat Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and become the world's best player last night. As he did so, questions continued to be raised about his future, with the Croatian linked with Serie A giants, Inter Milan.

However, after winning the 2018 Ballon d'Or last night, Modric publicly stated that he would like to remain at Real Madrid and would even like to retire at the Spanish club. After the ceremony, Modric said:

"I have two years left and hopefully one more. The club show me a lot of affection and I'd like to retire at Real Madrid. My family enjoy it and I want to keep enjoying this huge club."

The 33-year-old has won 14 major trophies in 6 full seasons with Madrid so far, including 4 UEFA Champions League trophies.
