Twitter goes berserk as Manchester City thrash Chelsea 6-0

Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League table with a comprehensive 6-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday. The Cityzens put up a ruthless performance, handing Chelsea one of their biggest defeats in the Premier League era.

Goals from Raheem Sterling (brace), Sergio Aguero (hat-trick) and Ilkay Gundogan were enough for Pep Guardiola’s men to move back to the top of the Premier League.

Sterling opened the scoring after just four minutes, running behind the Blues’ defence to coolly slot home. Aguero doubled City’s lead in the 13th minute with a goal-of-the-season contender, as the Argentine striker fired a sweet shot from the outside of the box.

Six minutes later, Aguero made it 3-0 with another deft finish from the edge of the box. In the 25th minute, Gundogan added insult to injury by scoring City’s fourth goal against Chelsea. The Blues tried to get back into the game, but a couple of half chances from Gonzalo Higuain and Eden Hazard were quickly shut out by the City defence.

Guardiola’s men continued to press in the second half and it took just eight minutes after the restart for Aguero to complete his hat-trick. The Argentine striker expertly converted from the penalty spot to equal Alan Shearer’s record of 11 Premier League hat-tricks. Sterling later added City's final goal to make it 6-0 for the home side.

The 6-0 defeat was actually Chelsea’s biggest defeat in the Premier League and, it leaves the Blues in 6th position, following wins for both Arsenal and Manchester United on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have moved back to the top of the Premier League, although they have played a game more than second-placed Liverpool.
